From a young age, my first passion was always dance. I trained intensely without reservation for the impact it had on my body & mind. Dance was my whole life, and my toes would show I bled for it. Over time, it became harder and harder to force my body to some of the long hours and unnatural positions required of me. With one chronic injury after another, I had to step away from my professional dance career. I blamed my body for my inability to continue on dancing like I once had. In this new tension between my body and mind, my mental and physical health paid the price.
As I navigated through these deep waters of separation and sickness, I stumbled my way into body work, yoga, & meditation. I quickly learned how important the union between mind and body is to healing—not only the physical, but mental as well. This also came with the realization that most of my previous injuries didn’t come from me “not being good enough”, but from a lack of awareness on how to sustainability support my body and mind in an intense sport like dance.
These lessons sparked the inspiration to pursue a new passion. I enrolled for massage school at Cayce-Reily School of Massage with a desire to learn more about the mind-body connection, healing, and injury prevention. Throughout massage school I continued to teach dance and was able to explore working with my body, versus against it, as I had in the past.
My movement became my medicine and my life path.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked with Chiropractors creating holistic treatment plans for others on their own path of prevention and healing. In my current practice I value re-framing self talk, mind-body connection, effective breathing, movement goals, education, and going through life like its all a part of the dance.
